Principal's Corner

Principal Bio

It is with a great sense of pride that I accepted the Principal position here at Spanish Fort Middle School. It is truly an honor to be a part of this exciting and wonderful community. I personally want to thank the community for all the support that they have already shown me as the new principal. It is truly an honor for me to be here as principal to help support our outstanding team of teachers and to help ensure each student is successful.  I cannot wait to continue to build upon the strong foundation that we have already built. There is a lot to be excited about and I know that working together we can do anything we set our minds to!

As an educational leader, I believe successful leadership requires an individual with a strong sense of character, integrity, and the ability to manage effectively, so as to empower those who work with you. It is my goal as an educational leader to create and maintain the highest quality professional learning community possible.

I completed my Bachelors and Masters Degree at Indiana University. I began my teaching career as a middle school Biology and Chemistry teacher and have been in a role as an instructional leader for the past 4 years. In 2006, I was accepted into the Education Leadership Ph.D. program at Auburn University and finished my course work last fall. It is my hope to graduate this December. (WAR EAGLE!!) My area of research is in high performing/ high poverty schools. This research has confirmed for me the invaluable best practices for educational leaders and teachers that research has proven to be successful in any school setting. Education is my passion, not simply a career.

On a more personal note, I have been happily married to my wife Angela for 17 years and have two children, Sam (16) and Lilly (13). We are originally from Fort Wayne, IN. We moved to Auburn, AL for my wife to pursue her Ph.D. in Psychology in 2004. She graduated from Auburn and is now working as a neuropsychologist. We moved to the Spanish Fort area in 2008.

When I am not reading or writing, which is not much right now, I love to compete in triathlons. I enjoy all distances, but prefer the 70.3 and the full Ironman. I will be competing in my 2nd full Ironman race in Cozumel, Mexico, in November.
